Well, lightning almost struck twice for us yesterday, as we came within a neck of landing a second successive big double.

After Rule The World had comfortably got home at 6/4 by biding his time and assuming control after the last hurdle at Naas, our focus switched to Galway.

There the favourite Marchese Marconi was a disappointing 4th in a race where our 10/1 shot Rory O’Moore bravely attempted (and very almost succeeded!) to make all.

Unfortunately he was collared within feet of the line and went down by a neck to deny us a 26.5/1 double at the death.

Close but no cigar yesterday, but that doesn’t top up the bank, but I’m aiming to rectify that with these today…

2.00 Ffos Las

If The Last Bridge comes here and picks up where he left off at the end of his last campaign (two wins and a second), then there’s no reason why he can’t run out a 7/2 winner in this one. After just 8 races, he’s still relatively unexposed and I think he’s still quite leniently treated off a mark of just 78.

The main danger is likely to come from Mr McCoy aboard the 2/1 favourite Captain Moonman, who ran well enough when finishing second here a fortnight ago and the 2f drop back in trip is expected to help him go closer.

4.00 Ffos Las

This is a 4-horse race that should be a shootout between the two at the head of the market. On his day, 2/1 shot Kilvergan Boy could take this race quite easily, but he has become rather unreliable of late and preference goes to Billybo who comes here as 11/10 favourite and holds the best recent form of the four on show here.

Billybo reappeared on the track in December 2012 after a break of some 32 months and since his return has won once in five outings and has been placed second on three occasions.

He has been very consistent and despite his mark rising from 65 to 91 in those five races, he runs off 91 again today and will be aided by his jockey’s 10lb claim. he looks a clear odds on favourite, but we can still get on at 11/10 with Paddy Power.
