Double Dutch, 19th November 2013
I signed off on holiday almost three weeks ago with a poor set of selections, which provided no winners at all, so I’ll be aiming to put that straight now that I’m back!
Results to date:
61 winning selections from 203 = 30.05%
18 winning doubles in 56 days = 32.14%
Stakes: 110.00pts
Returns: 113.93pts
P/L : +3.93pts (+3.57% ROI)
We’re still just in front, but there’s little room for error, so we’ll need to be building the back up sharpish, which I hope to do today with these…
This looks to be a straight contest between two successful point to point runners: the evens favourite Spirit Oscar who is preferred to 11/4 shot Lady Boru.
Spirit Oscar has finished 2312 in her four points starts and despite finishing as a runner-up last time out, she had a subsequent bumper winner behind her that day. She’s a half-sister to 2m-2m4f hurdle/chase winner Shopfrontspecialist and having changed hands for £42,000 last January looks to have been dropped in for a relatively easy hurdling debut here.
It’s over 18 months since Lady Boru ran her only race under Rules, but has been competing (and winning) in points races since. She showed some signs of ability when finishing 6th in a bumper for Philip Hobbs back in May 2012 and is a sister to bumper winner Call Me Bill, half-sister to 2m3f-3m2f hurdle/chase winner Go West and bumper winner When In Roam.
She’s now under the eye of Dan Skelton, whose yard has been flying of late and could well upset the odds here.
Watt Broderick would have been a comfortable winner last time out at Warwick, but for making a right hash of the last and taking a heavy-looking fall. Despite not completing the course that day, he still looks the one to beat here and a clear round should be enough, hence his current short price of 11/10, although Coral do offer slightly more at 6/5.
He’s still unexposed over hurdles, today will be just his seventh attempt after eleven runs on the flat and should make amends for that error last time out.
If the events of yesterday haven’t taken too much out of Persian Herald, then I’d expect him to be the main challenger today. Currently best priced at 5/2 with Stan James, this is a decent price about a course and distance winner who now runs in a race with only four rivals. He’s not the easiest horse to ride, but has won two of his last three starts, including a seller at Leicester yesterday over today’s trip and that C&D win 25 days ago.
4 x 0.5pt BOG doubles as follows:
Spirit Oscar / Watt Broderick @ 4.20 generally, but 888Sport are offering 4.62 non-BOG
Spirit Oscar / Persian Herald @ 7.00 with Stan James
Lady Boru / Watt Broderick @ 7.88 with Bet365
Lady Boru / Persian Herald @ 13.13 with Stan James
