Double Dutch, 2nd December 2013

No joy again yesterday, but a better set of results than the previous few days, at least!

We ended up with two runners-up, a third and a non-runner, so we’re getting closer to hitting the winners again.

Yesterday’s results were as follows:

Daymar Bay: 2nd at 6/4
Zarzal: non-runner
———————————
Lodgician: 2nd at 9/2
Bally Lagan: 3rd at 7/2 (SP 6/5)

Results to date:
73 winning selections from 253 = 28.85%
22 winning doubles in 69 days = 31.88%

Stakes: 136.00pts
Returns: 135.50pts

P/L : -0.50pts (-0.37% ROI)

We’ve now slipped back into the red, as situation that will need rectifying quickly. Whether a quite visibly poor day of racing will achieve that for us remains to be seen!

2.10 Plumpton:

Mister Wiseman won by 5 lengths over today’s trip at Fontwell 5 days ago and with that being a conditionals race, he escapes a penalty here. He ran off 84 last week with a 5lb jockey claim and today’s mark of 84 is reduced by the same jockey’s increased 7lbs claim, which should make him even more competitive. If this race doesn’t come too soon for this 11yr old veteran, he’s sure to be there or thereabouts and is generally available at 9/4 BOG.

Also available at 9/4 BOG is his likeliest rival for the spoils today: Further More, who travelled strongly last time out until a mistake 3 fences from home took the wind out of his sails and he then tired quickly and folded. That was over 2m7f and the 3f drop in trip here is probably more to his liking. He’s unexposed over the larger obstacles, just his second attempt today and he’s sure to come on for that first try. He has the benefit of the vast experience of jockey Aidan Coleman and his yard (Lavelle’s) is in fine form at present.

2.30 Wolverhampton:

Just five go to post for this one and I just cannot see three of them winning! Therefore I’m instantly ruling out Star Anise, Jazzy Lady and Tortoise (who’ll probably run like one!).

This, by default, leaves me with Ragged Robbin (the 13/8 favourite) who drops in class here and looks pretty well treated and also course and distance winner Rural Affair, a 2/1 shot in places.

Ragged Robbin tackles a handicap for the first time after showing promise to finish 4th in a maiden at Lingfield LTO. He steps up in trip and down in class for what looks a pre-meditated target today. Rural Affair, meanwhile, comes here looking for a hat trick for a trainer with a 22% strike rate at Wolverhampton this year.

.
4 x 0.5pt BOG doubles as follows:
Mister Wiseman / Ragged Robbin @ 8.33 with Stan James
Mister Wiseman / Rural Affair @ 10.50 with Stan James
Further More / Ragged Robbin @ 8.53 with Seanie Mac and/or Boylesports
Further More / Rural Affair @ 9.36 with BetVictor and/or William Hill
