John Gosden is a man whose winter team are in stellar form at the moment, with a 14 day strike rate of 71% – that’s five winners from his seven runners in a form string which reads 1161131. His form in December as a whole is 1401251141161131, which is nine wins from sixteen runs (56%).

Today he saddles three at Lingfield, so there’s a fair chance I’ll plump for the wrong one, especially as I’m siding with one of a pair in the same race. While Dick Doughtywylie is no back number, his form is probably slightly below that of stablemate and today’s SotD nominee, Gatewood.

Winner of a Listed handicap at Royal Ascot in 2012, Gatewood’s form dipped a little when taken for a campaign down under. But, freshened up and on his first all weather start last time, he ran a fair second in this same Listed class at Kempton. That was over a mile and a half and all of Gatewood’s winning form has been at a mile and a quarter, today’s trip.

In fact, his record at the trip reads 2141112. William Buick rides, and the 11/4 BOG generally probably has a touch of value about it.
