Stat of the Day, 22nd December 2013
The curse of the wrong one reared its ugly head on Saturday, as our boy Gatewood was nutted by stablemate, Dick Doughtywylie, franking the stat (John Gosden’s form) but kicking us in the fleshies. And at Christmas, as well. We can take solace from our 11/4 hardening to 5/4 by the off, but it’s a loser on the score card nevertheless…
To Sunday, the last day of racing before Boxing Day, and it was tough to find one, but I like this angle, and you might too…
The angle here is ‘hard fit National Hunt’, and it’s one of the systems I have in my incubator. Basically, we’re looking for horses with two or more runs in the last three months, and their last run being within the last week.
The lad in question is called Wayward Glance, and he ran last Sunday at Carlisle, where he won on heavy ground. He’s gone up the obligatory seven pounds for that, but is running in the same class here and as a horse proven in the weight-carrying stakes. There look to be mainly horses that find it hard to win with in opposition, with the exception of Allerton who is feared, and our lad thrives on racing.
It’s not a strong selection, as the racing is awful today, truth be known, but it’s as good as I could find from the poor fare on display. 7/2 BOG with bet365 is fine.
