Double Dutch, 22nd December 2013

A nice 15.5/1 double on Saturday, and indeed a pair of 1-2’s with the other selections both bagging silver. Let’s see if we can repeat the feat on Sunday, as we head into the Christmas break. (Chris will be back on Boxing Day, but there’s no racing between Monday and then).

Yesterday’s results were as follows:

Mwaleshi: 1st 9/2 adv
Valco De Touzaine: 2nd 9/4
Carole’s Spirit: 1st 2/1
As I Am: 2nd 4/1 adv

Results to date:

Sunday’s pair of races are:

2.1o Bangor

Three that can conceivably win, and the duo with the proven alacrity for soft turf are Classic Move and Theatrebar. The former is a Donald McCain inmate, and McCain has a fine record at Bangor: he’s saddled more than ten winners here in each of the last five calendar years. Classic Move wasn’t beaten far behind Moyle Park in a Punchestown bumper last backend and has made a pleasing enough start to hurdling. This is easier than his last start.

Theatrebar is Tom Symonds’ horse, and placed in both starts in soft ground bumpers behind good horses. That form gives him a chance here, and his trainer is hitting 19% winners from his last 100 runners. Theatrebar is unbeaten over hurdles (one run!), and could extend that sequence to two here.

3.10 Bangor

I’ll be honest. It was pretty hard to find a second race today, and this is a fairly speculative offering. But it’s a handicap with a robust favourite, and one other that catches my eye, so we’ll roll with it.

Night Of Passion won very well last time, and could easily go in again under very similar conditions. He’s still only rated 86 so would hardly have to improve to beat these from near the bottom of the weights. He’s around 13/8, which is tight enough, but he has a good chance.

The riskier half of this pairing is The Last Bridge. This one won twice last season off equally lowly marks, and one of those was on heavy ground. He had every right to need his first spin of the season last time out and, if he’s come on for that, would be one of the more likely types at around 11/1  in a desperate race.

4 x 0.5pt BOG doubles as follows:
