Matt signed us off for Christmas with a hat-trick completing 13/4 double to keep the ball rolling and now it’s my turn to sit in the DD hot seat into the New Year, as I try to continue our good run.

1.35 Limerick:

This looks pretty much a two-horse race here and unfortunately the bookies agree. Carriganog went well in winning two 2m hurdle contests for Aidan O’Brien on soft ground back in October and this one wasn’t at all disgraced when beaten into 3rd place last time out.

That was a marked step up in both trip (an extra half mile) and class (to Grade 2) and the ground was a little firmer. He reverts to 2m on soft today and is pick to land this at a generally available 2/1 BOG.

The obvious challenger is the 130,000 Euro purchase Smashing, who has bags of experience in France and will make a fine chaser. He was, however, a convincing winner on his introduction to Irish hurdling at Fairyhouse four weeks ago and will be seeking to land back to back win for the Mullins team. I just fear he’s a little short at 11/10, considering the drop in trip.

2.35 Kempton:

If the race above could be narrowed down to just two runners, this one didn’t even need thinking about. No elaborate write-up needed, these horses are well-known in their own rights and it is virtually inconceivable that The New One and My Tent Or Yours won’t fill the first two home.

The call here is a pair of forecasts to eke out a few more points! TNO/MTOY is 2.32 BOG with Bet365, whilst the reverse is 2.44 BOG
