Double Dutch, 8th January 2014

It was another bad day at the office yesterday, I’m afraid with no winners at all. Three of the four selections made the frame, but none of them really looked like winning, if truth be told.

I don’t like to make excuses, but the racing is terrible at present, but we’ll ride it out as always!

Yesterday’s results were as follows:

Bubbly Bailey: 3rd at 9/2 SP (adv 10/3)
Limon Squeezy: u/p at 5/2 SP (adv 5/2)
———————————
Santo Thomas: 2nd at 13/8 SP (adv 2/1)
Toowoomba: 3rd at 2/1 (adv 9/4)

Results to date:
112 winning selections from 384 = 29.17%
35 winning doubles in 103 days = 33.98%

More low-grade stuff today, I’m afraid, but I’m hopeful of catching the winner in these two poor-looking maidens on the A/W:

2.35 Lingfield:

Up Tipp is the obvious starting point here, dropping back into maiden company after two creditable efforts in defeat in handicaps at Kempton. We should note that Adam Kirby takes the ride today, a positive sign, no doubt.

He was beaten by just a head and then by a length as he registered successive runner-up positions and the way he stayed on in the closing stages on both one mile races suggests he’ll be the one to beat over 10f today at a price of 7/4 BOG (Coral & Stan James)

There’s not a great deal of depth or quality to the rest of the field and it’s pretty much a toss-up between Secret Song and Fearless Lad for the secondary selection.

Secret Song ran well to be placed in a Wolverhampton handicap over 9.5f last month, but Fearless Lad has the better form of the two, albeit over a mile. There’s every possibility that he’ll improve for he step up in trip and this hope added to the value offered by his current price of 11/2 (Bet365) makes him my tentative second pick.

5.40 Kempton:

Rosie Prospects has produced two good runs over C&D in her two starts to date. She beat Perfect Pursuit & Costa Filey (1.5l & 2l respectively) last time out, yet meets them on the same terms again today. I can’t see any reason why there should be a different outcome this time and I fancy Rosie Prospects to break her duck with a 2/1 BOG win.

I’d expect those two she beat last time out to finish ahead of the two debutants, so my alternate pick for this one would probably be Perfect Pursuit who ran better than Costa Filey LTO and the recent form of Clive Cox’s “Perfect” runners is an added bonus here. She’ll not be without support today but can be backed now at 5/2 (Hills & Coral)

4 x 0.5pt BOG doubles as follows:
Up Tipp / Rosie Prospects @ 7.25/1 (Coral 7/4 & 2/1)
Up Tipp / Perfect Pursuit @ 8.63/1 (Coral 7/4 & 5/2)
Fearless Lad / Rosie Prospects @ 18.50/1 (Bet365, BetVictor 11/2 & 2/1)
Fearless Lad / Perfect Pursuit @ 21.12/1 (Bet365 11/2 & 9/4)
