Double Dutch, 6th February 2014
Our incredible run of form continued yesterday, further reminding us of the cyclical nature of fortunes in this wonderful sport of ours. The Gods are smiling on us at present though.
It was a perfect day yesterday with a 1-2 in both races, aided admittedly by a couple of non-runners in the first race and both races went the way of my preferred order too: the first by half a length and the second by just a short head on the line.
These days are very rare indeed and the icing on the cake was Addikt’s drift from 3/1 out to 9/2, which turned a 10.5/1 double into a 14.8/1 payout.
Yesterday’s results were as follows:
Edmund Kean: won at 4/6 (adv 15/8)
The Romford Pele: 2nd at 6/5 (adv 7/4)
(The Exacta paid just £1.90 here)
———————————
Addikt: won at 9/2 (adv 3/1)
Polydamos: 2nd at 2/1 (adv 7/2)
(The Exacta paid a healthy £18.00 here)
Results to date:
141 winning selections from 495 = 28.48%
47 winning doubles in 132 days = 35.61%
Stakes: 262.00pts
Returns: 281.55pts
P/L : +19.55pts (+7.46% ROI)
My bid to keep the streak alive rests with two linked races from this evening’s card at Dunstall Park:
A tricky little 5-runner contest here, but the two I’d take from this one are Spreadable and Crisis Averted. The latter was a winner on debut over course and distance three weeks ago and the third placed horse that day has gone on to win both his two races since. The 7/4 favourite Crisis Averted can be expected to improve second time out making for an interesting battle with Spreadable…
…who comes here in great form, having finished 231141 in his six runs on A/W. He’s 23111 here at Wolverhampton with wins at 7f, 6f and then at today’s 5f last time out. He gets weight from three of his four rivals here today and I’m not convinced he doesn’t have further improvement in him. Crisis Averted should push him hard and it’ll be interesting to see how he responds. I fancy him to just nick it at 5/2 BOG.

An hour later, sees the return of Winterwell, who was second to Crisis Averted (see above) last time out. She was second by a length that day, but still over 2 lengths clear of The Dandy Yank, who has scored twice since. She has two runner-up positions from her two runs here at Wolverhampton and a 2lb drop in her mark allied to a drop in class might just make the difference as she attempts to make it third time lucky here at a generally available 11/4 BOG.
The main threat, if not the winner of the race, will surely come from Rafaaf, who fairly bolted up over Course and Distance last time out, staying on to win by 3 lengths. He’s been off the track for almost 10 weeks now, but that’s not an issue, as that last run (& win!) came on the back of a break of eight and a half months. He’s up 7lbs for that win to a mark of 62, but he has won off both 65 & 73 in the past, making him of great interest at 3/1 BOG today.
4 x 0.5pt BOG doubles as follows:
Crisis Averted / Winterwell @ 9.31/1 (7/4 & 11/4 BetVictor, Boylesports & Hills)
Crisis Averted / Rafaaf @ 10/1 (7/4 & 3/1 BetVictor & Hills)
Spreadable / Winterwell @ 12.13/1 (5/2 & 11/4 BetVictor & Hills)
Spreadable / Rafaaf @ 13/1 (5/2 & 3/1 BetVictor & Hills)
