Stat of the Day, 31st March 2014
Jack Dexter could managed only third at 13/8 on Saturday, a good bit better than the 2/1 we availed of, but still a loser in the book. The ground was on the good side of soft, with sun and wind leading to drying ground, and Jack – like almost every other horse on the card racing from off the pace – struggled to make up ground. He did well to finish in the frame but was never going to get to Dinkum Diamond.
It’s heavy ground low grade action for us on Monday, as we head to the…
One horse in this field has a three from three record in heavy ground, and a record of 31112 in Class 5, today’s grade. Dingo Bay was entitled to get outpaced last time when trying good ground and this essentially slow horse should appreciate the return to slow conditions. What he does do is gallop resolutely, and that will be the order of the day over three miles and a furlong in bottomless conditions.
Jockey Brian Hughes is reunited with Dingo Bay here, having been absent last time, and he’s been on board for all three of the horse’s wins. Although he’s now rated 96, having starting the hat-trick off a rating of just 68, he retains some upside potential and, under a pace-pressing ride in optimal conditions will take a bit of beating.
In that context then, I’m very pleased to accept bet365’s offer of 5/1, even more so when he’s a general 4/1 shot and Skybet are as low as 10/3. Win only.
