Double Dutch, 3rd April 2014

A nice winner and a load of carp is the best way to describe Tuesday’s brace of races. We were sunk before leg two as both Brabazon and Bert The Alert failed to make the first two… which meant it didn’t matter that Coombe Hill won despite drifting to 9/2. Bum.

That said, Coombe Hill became the 200th winning pick from 690 selections since DD started, at a clip of 29%.

Wednesday’s results were as follows:

Bert The Alert: 3rd at 7/4 (adv 11/4)
Brabazon: 4th at 10/1 (adv 11/2)
———————————
Shy John: 4th at 10/11 (adv Evs)
Coombe Hill: won at 9/2 (adv 10/3)

REMINDER: THERE IS NO DOUBLE DUTCH ON SUNDAYS

2.30 Aintree:

As discussed elsewhere, this has the look of a three horse race and, with First Lieutenant’s poor win ratio, I’m rolling with Dynaste and Silviniaco Conti. Both have top class form, both have off days. Hopefully one of them will have an on day here. They really should win it between them for reasons outlined here.

6.45 Wolverhampton:

The market makes this a three horse race, and I’m against one of them. Specifically, the betting suggests Star Up In The Sky, Ray Of Joy and Iffranesia have it between them, and I don’t really like Ray Of Joy. She’s been well beaten all five times at the track and sets us up for a double play on the other duo.

SUITS has solid track form, with a win and a place from three tries, and has won three of his eight races at the six furlong trip. She’s in form and should go close again. Iffranesia is better known as a Southwell filly, but she has won here twice and was a short head second on her only other visit. Those were all over five furlongs so the extra 216 yards are taken on trust, but she’s bred to see it out and, with a sole attempt at it – and that on soft ground at Yarmouth – she’s well worth another try.

4 x 0.5pt BOG doubles, as follows:
Dynaste / Star Up In The Sky @ 5.31/1 (15/8 & 6/5 : Bet365)
Dynaste / Iffranesia @ 13.4/1 (15/8 & 4/1 : BetVictor)
Silviniaco Conti / Star Up In The Sky @ 6.15/1 (9/4 & 6/5 : Bet365)
Silviniaco Conti / Iffranesia @ 15.25/1 (9/4 & 4/1 : Bet365)
