Double Dutch, 4th April 2014

Back on the win trail on Thursday, as Silviniaco Conti led home Dynaste in race one, and a non-runner left Star Up In The Sky to come home alone in race two. That meant a double with a Rule 4 and a single.

Thursday’s results were as follows:

Silviniaco Conti: won at 9/4 (adv 9/4)
Brabazon: 2nd at 13/8 (adv 15/8)

REMINDER: THERE IS NO DOUBLE DUTCH ON SUNDAYS

3.05 Aintree:

I’m taking a real chance in a wide open race, and if you’re the safety conscious sort, look away now! It’s the Melling Chase, and I’ve covered my thoughts here. Suffice it to say that neither of Wishfull Thinking or Boston Bob are reliable propositions, nor are they in the first two in the betting. But they do have class on their day, which most of these don’t, and they are optimally favoured by conditions. If we’re still riding, we’ll have 7/1 or 8/1 rolling on to the…

5.05 Sedgefield:

I’m going to the novices’ hunter chase well again – once too often, perhaps? Many of these are deeply uncompetitive races, so they’re worth a second glance. Here they bet 5/4, 2/1, 12/1 bar two. The could be betting 100/1 bar two such is the ‘paper’ superiority of the front pair.

Silver Token won by sixteen lengths under very similar conditions at Ffos Las for today’s rider last time, and a repeat of that will see him win. Shales Rock was more of a surprise winner last time when beating Chosen Milan. Regular readers will know that bolted up at Newton Abbot beating a good horse a couple of days back, so the form looks solid, and the pair were seventeen lengths clear of the rest.

It’s hard to make any sort of compelling case for the rest without a deep knowledge of the point-to-point scene, which I don’t have. It’s possible there’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing therein. Possible, but unlikely. If there is, Can’t Call It looks like being the one.
