Double Dutch

Double Dutch, 10th April 2014

I’m a bit annoyed with myself about yesterday’s pair. A nice 4/1 winner in the second race wasn’t cashed in on because I ended up with a 16/1 shot (!) in leg one. That horse was clearly not fancied, and she actually ran pretty well to be a fairly close fifth. That’s more than can be said of the favourite, who beat just one home. The 2nd fav won, which was annoying, as it could (and perhaps should) have been a nice 21.5/1 double.

Wednesday’s results were as follows:

Don’t: 7th at 9/4 (adv 9/4)
Platinum Pearl: 5th at 16/1 (adv 15/2)
———————————
Jarlath: won at 4/1 (adv 4/1)
Enquiring: 3rd at Evs (adv 11/8)

REMINDER: THERE IS NO DOUBLE DUTCH ON SUNDAYS

Hard going today, but this pair looks at least relatively appetizing…

3.40 Towcester:

A maiden hurdle with a lot of dead wood here. There is also a clear market leader, and a well backed second favourite: perfect Double Dutch material!

The jolly is Fine Moment, a 107-rated maiden who ran a very good race in defeat to Anthony Honeyball’s Lily Waugh in a handicap last time out. That’s strong form in a race like this and, though she’s had plenty of chances, Fine Moment may belatedly get off the mark here.

If she is to finish second again, the most likely danger is that well backed animal, Rising Teal, from Lucy Wadham’s yard. Grand National-winning jockey, Leighton Aspell, gets the ride, and the drop back in trip and slightly firmer turf are expected to make a positive difference.

5.10 Towcester:

We’re getting pretty good at these novice hunter chases now, aren’t we? And the form of two recent Double Dutch winners – Chosen Milan and Shales Rock – is on display again, as the third placed horse from that race, Warwickshire, bids to bolster its value still further. Since that bronze medal, Warwickshire has scored in a Restricted point to point at Garthorpe since, and is reported in good heart.

His main – only? – market rival appears to be Done A Runner, and all I can tell you about him is that he comes from a very good stable for this type of race: that of Alan Hill. He’s been running well and winning in point to points and this is his debut in a rules race.

4 x 0.5pt BOG doubles, as follows:
Fine Moment / Warwickshire @ 4.63/1 (6/4 & 11/8 : BetVictor)
Fine Moment / Done A Runner @ 5.25/1 (6/4 & 6/4 : BetVictor)
Rising Teal / Warwickshire @ 9.13/1 (7/2 & 5/4 : BetVictor)
Rising Teal / Done A Runner @ 10.25/1 (7/2 & 6/4 : BetVictor)
