Third yesterday, and a remote third at that. It was a pretty poor selection as it turned out, and I’m struggling to find any sort of rhythm in the SotD chair this week. I do think the changing of the seasons is a factor, and also the moderate nature of the racing, but there are winners everywhere, if only we can find one!

4.10 Towcester:

Chris Davies is a young jumps jockey struggling to make his way in the game, and he doesn’t have that many winners, truth be told. But he has struck up an incredible affinity with a mare called Floral Spinner. She too has found winning generally hard, but her consistency is something to behold and, as a partnership, they’ve never been out of the frame in seven starts.

That sequence of seven reads 1322232, which means we should be getting a fair run for the bet at a double figure price.

Trainer Bill Turner is one of my favourites, and he’s in belting form just now. Indeed, three of his last four runners have won, at odds of 10/11, 4/1, and… 16/1! They were all on the flat but incredibly three of Bill’s last four runners here at Towcester have also won! And they were at odds of 10/3, 8/1, and… 33/1!

Keen followers of mine will know that Bill Turner was on my Winning Trainers 2.0 list last year, but I’m pretty sure he had a virus in the yard as his horses largely ran like stink. Obviously, soon after being dropped from the team, they started winning again, and this is a trainer whose horses you definitely need to watch, especially when they’re amongst the winners.

Floral Spinner has a fair each way chance this afternoon, and 22/1 with Betbright is attractive in that context. It’s not Best Odds Guaranteed, but it is eight points bigger than anyone else! If you’d prefer BOG, she’s 14/1 with BetVictor. We’ll be recording the result at the 20/1 non-BOG price. Each way.

STOP PRESS: 11am update. Coral are 18/1 BOG whereas Betbright have shortened up considerably.
