Double Dutch, 12th April 2014
My first double loss on this mini-tenure, which is a fair run I’d say. Today is my last day in the Double Dutch chair for now, with Chris returning on Monday (remember, Sundays are a day off for Team Geegeez).
Friday’s results were as follows:
Spyder: fell at 11/4 (adv 9/4)
Long Lunch: 2nd at 11/8 (adv 9/4)
———————————
Katja: 2nd at 10/11 (adv 13/8)
Role Reversal: 4th at 5/1 (adv 7/2)
Results to date:
210 winning selections from 723 = 29.05%
70 winning bets in 189 days = 37.04%
Stakes: 376pts
Returns: 444.91pts
P/L : +68.91pts (+18.33% ROI)
REMINDER: THERE IS NO DOUBLE DUTCH ON SUNDAYS
Here’s how I’m rolling on Saturday…
A reasonably competitive renewal of the Fred Darling, but there’s perhaps more quantity than quality and, unless something has improved significantly over the winter (entirely possible!), the top two in the betting look a strong pairing against the field. Al Thakira is Marco Botti’s 1000 Guineas hope and this daughter of Dubawi will be much happier on the expansive Newbury straight than the tight turns at Santa Anita, and this lass is already a Group 2 winner over this trip on this ground.
Joyeuse runs for Lady Cecil and this filly is stepping up to a trip that looks spot on (by Oasis Dream). She’s a Listed winner on faster, but should appreciate slightly more cut in the ground as she’ll get here. The Cecil yard has started well, and Joyeuse ought to be a better three year old than juvenile.
Regular readers will know I love the normally uncompetitive nature of hunter chases, where there’s usually value to be had at the top end of the betting lists. I’m also generally inclined to side with younger horses than the ex-handicappers in these races, which means I’m pairing How’s My Friend and Best Served Cold here.
How’s My Friend was quite a big price a couple of weeks ago when just failing to get past the smart Coombe Hill, but that was no fluke and, if not suffering from the exertions there, he looks a solid play in what is no more than a four horse race, and likely a three horse race.
Best Served Cold looks the pick of RJ Hewitt’s pair, rather than the aging and mostly regressive King Fontaine, and he has proven stamina and the highest official rating (for what that’s worth). Ski Sunday’s best form
4 x 0.5pt BOG doubles, as follows:
Al Thakira / How’s My Friend @ 12.5/1 (7/2 & 2/1 : Coral)
Al Thakira / Best Served Cold @ 19.25/1 (7/2 & 7/2 : Coral)
Joyeuse / How’s My Friend @ 15.5/1 (9/2 & 2/1 : BetVictor)
Joyeuse / Best Served Cold @ 23.75/1 (9/2 & 7/2 : BetVictor)
