3.20 Market Rasen:

Kicking off today with a pretty decent novices’ chase, featuring the 144 rated hurdler, Rum And Butter. He’s twenty pounds clear of the rest on hurdle ratings but these are bigger fences, and not all of them translate their timber-topping form to the big’uns. Still, 6/5 with the champ aboard is fair, given Rum And Butter is a summer jumper through and through.

There are three on or around the 125 hurdle mark, but the one best suited to conditions today looks to be Wake Your Dreams. Jennie Candlish is in great form just now, with two winners and a second from her last four runners; and this chap has won three of his fives races here at Rasen. He’ll love the ground, and the grade is right too.

5.40 Market Rasen:

This looks a match between dual course and distance winner Chilly Miss, and well-backed first timer, Southfield Royale.

The case for the former is simple. Two runs, two wins, both here, both at this trip, both on this ground, both in this class. She has just a three pound penalty for those wins and, whilst spotting the four year olds – including Southfield Royale – another three pounds, a six pound concession is hardly insurmountable.

Southfield Royale is closely related to those other good Southfield’s, Theatre and Vic, and Tony McCoy is an eye-catching booking. The Neil Mulholland yard is in fair form, and they’ve got a decent record at Rasen too. This one has been backed to the exception of all others in the race, and clearly a big run is expected.

4 x 0.5pt BOG doubles, as follows:
Rum And Butter / Chilly Miss @ 6.2/1 (6/4 & 15/8 : SJ)
Rum And Butter / Southfield Royale @ 4.63/1 (5/4 & 6/4 : PP)
Wake Your Dreams / Chilly Miss @ 11.96/1 (7/2 & 15/8 : Boyle)
