Stat of the Day, 29th July 2014
It was a case of disappointing deja vu yesterday, as we suffered a repeat of Saturday. Just like then, our pick, Mallory Heights, was well backed from an early 11/2 to an SP of 7/2. Just like then, we knew our fate by half way as Kirby was never happy with his horse who seemed to struggle to go the gallop, even though it wasn’t that quick. He finished out the back (11th) in the end.
We’ll attempt to beat the market again today, and to at least get a lot more competitive, as we head to the northernmost track in Britain, and the…
Irish raiders are a very common occurrence at Perth, and they’re generally quite successful. One man who doesn’t travel that often is Champion Hurdle-winning trainer, Robert Hennessy. In fact, he’s sent just nine horses to the track, with three of them winning, for a profit of 8.5 units.
Brian Hughes is Hennessy’s go to guy when he comes over generally, and the pair are four from six in all UK races together. That’s been worth 18.5 profit points, and one horse has been responsible for the guts of that happy tally, Hero de Villeneuve.
Hero de Villeneuve is a progressive six year old chaser, which is a good thing, as he’ll have to defy a nine pound hike for his last win. But his form on good ground in UK – the same as today’s – reads 111. The first two wins were at Bangor, and the last one – four weeks ago – was here at Perth in today’s grade, Class 3.
He’s up against some pretty exposed rivals in the main, and with more to come can defy the penalty. The partnership team up earlier in the evening (7.00) with Ultra Light, who is also up nine pounds for a last day win, and drops back in trip against largely exposed rivals. But it’s the chaser that interests me most, and secures a one point win bet for Stat of the Day at 5/2 BOG with William Hill.
