Stat of the Day, 2nd August 2014
Another second place, this time in the most strange of circumstances. Our pick, Sonnetation, was left as the 8/13 favourite, after the defection of the 8/15 jolly, Fray. That meant a 65p Rule 4 deduction, which in turn meant we were essentially getting 10/11 about an 8/13 shot.
But insult was added to injury as our normally front-running filly was held in second behind outsider of the three, Stosur, who crawled and then kicked, as I predicted Sonnetation might do. Frustrating, but on with the show.
It’s HQ today, and another who should go from the front in the…
Rattling fast ground is predicted for Newmarket’s meeting this afternoon – good to firm all over – and one who has been a revelation on that type of going is Nullarbor Sky.
Her form on such ground is 21111, and her recent form is also excellent, as back to back victories attest. She has been doing all of her winning at Yarmouth, but Newmarket’s long straight should suit equally well, and the extra furlong was perceived to be something she needed this season, according to her trainer, Lucy Wadham.
This is a Class 4 race, a grade in which she was a cosy winner last time out. Only four pounds higher, she may not have finished progressing yet, and 11/4 BOG with bet365, Coral and SkyBet looks reasonable at least, in a race where there looks to be no pace pressure on her at all. One point win.
