Double Dutch, 3rd September 2014
We were back to crossbar rattling again yesterday as we has a winner coupled with a(nother!) runner-up. Last Minute Lisa continued her fine form with a fairly comfortable win in the closer at Goodwood yesterday with Richard Hughes not really having to work too hard to secure victory. The manner of the win suggests that she’ll still go well next time under a penalty.
Mr Hughes wasn’t quite so fortunate in the opener, though as he and we were on the wrong end of a gutsy run form 8/1 Timba as the Gosden/Buick partnership beat Hannon & Hughes in a clash of the 2yr old heavyweights. We had to settle for second place in a race where the lead changed hands several times and our runner, Mystic Jade, eventually succumbed by a length and a quarter, denying us a double at 12/1.
Tuesday’s results were as follows:
Mystic Jade: 2nd at 9/4(adv 15/8)
Cartier: 3rd at 10/11 (adv 13/8)
——————————————
Last Minute Lisa: won at 15/8 (adv 3/1)
Hallingham: u/p at 7/2 (adv 100/30)
Results to date:
339 winning selections from 1185 = 28.61%
111 winning bets in 309 days = 35.92%
Stakes: 618.00pts
Returns: 685.84pts
P/L : +67.84pts (+10.98% ROI)
REMINDER: THERE IS NO DOUBLE DUTCH ON SUNDAYS
Dubai Hadeia was a good winner on her handicap debut last time out and on her first crack at today’s 1m2f trip. She seemed to have plenty in hand and even a 4lb rise in weight shouldn’t be enough to stop her going in again. Add into the mix, Cam Hardie’s 5lb claim and she’s effectively better off in what looks a slightly weaker race on paper. She beat Thatchereen by a length and a half that day and the runner-up went on to win by 4 lengths over the same trip next time out.
Charlie Appleby’s horses are running really well at the moment (6 winners from 16 in the last 7 days) and I wouldn’t be surprised to see another winner for the yard here at 15/8 BOG.
The other in-form horse in the field is Dutch Rifle who can currently be backed at 3/1 BOG. It has to be said that her best form has been produced on the all-weather, but in her defence she has only run on turf the once and that came off the back of a 21-weeks break!
She’s lightly raced (just four starts), but has won twice so far, both over 8.5f, staying on late and looking like she needs/wants more, which she will, of course get today. It was an apprentices’ handicap that she won last time out (8 days ago) and as a result isn’t penalised for the win and should remain very competitive off that same mark of 75, should she handle the conditions here.

As yesterday, I see a battle between Messrs Buick & Hughes to be the highlight of what looks a very mediocre claimer here. Both jockeys have good records at this track and will see this as an ideal opportunity to add another winner to the tally.
Richard Hughes rides the 6/4 BOG favourite Conquestadim, whose record on the A/W reads 43812 with two decent efforts in his last two races in handicap company. He won over 1m3f at Kempton, so he should be fine with the pace of the race and his runner-up finish over 1m7.5f here on this track last time suggests he’ll not want for stamina either.
Conquestadim clearly “gets” the track and was only beaten late on by half a length in that race by Mister Bob, who reappeared to win again a fortnight ago. The drop into a claimer should make his task easier today and he must be the one to beat, especially with Richard Hughes now taking over in the saddle.
The biggest challenge should come from William Buick aboard Passionate Affair, who has been running well enough, but without troubling the results compilers! Back in June, he produced two decent back-to-back efforts in sellers here over course and distance when beaten by a head and then winning by a nose a fortnight later. A switch to Jamie Osborne’s yard and handicap racing hasn’t quite panned out, but there have been some good efforts in a run reading 844344.
This is clearly a weaker contest than any of those handicaps and his course and distance knowledge should come in handy, as should the fact that he looks pretty well treated at the weighs today, so if the favourite fails to shine, Passionate Affair could well pick up the pieces to score at 4/1 BOG.
4 x 0.5pt E/W doubles as follows:
Dubai Hadeia / Conquestadim @ 6.19/1 (15/8 & 6/4 : SJ, Coral, Betfred, BetVictor)
Dubai Hadeia / Passionate Affair @ 13.38/1 (15/8 & 4/1 : Bet365, BetVictor & Hills)
Dutch Rifle / Conquestadim @ 9/1 (3/1 & 6/4 : BetVictor, SJ)
Dutch Rifle / Passionate Affair @ 19/1 (3/1 & 4/1 : BetVictor)
