Double Dutch, 17th October 2014
A second remarkably unexciting double yesterday, with no drift either, but we’re chipping away and waiting for better opportunities. Incidentally, the 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 (32 bets) five timer was landed in the first five races at Uttoxeter. I didn’t do it in the end, and it only paid about £50 for a £1 anyway, but it was an interesting bit of fun.
We’d also have had a double exacta if Richard Hughes hadn’t dropped his hands on Lear’s Rock at Wolves last evening.
Today I’m revisiting some of my Newmarket preview post, with a pair of Future Champions Day races…
Thursday’s results were as follows:
Princely Conn: WON at 1/2 (adv 10/11)
Fill Your Hands: 2nd at 9/4 (adv 6/4)
——————————————
Silver Rainbow: WON at 5/4 (adv 5/4)
Lear’s Rock: 3rd at 9/4 (adv 7/4)
Results to date:
377 winning selections from 1329 = 28.37%
122 winning bets in 346 days = 35.26%
Stakes: 691.50pts
Returns: 741.46pts
P/L : +49.81pts (+7.2% ROI)
REMINDER: THERE IS NO DOUBLE DUTCH ON SUNDAYS
Lucida is favoured, and she represents the hot hot hot Moyglare Stud Stakes race in which she ran second to Cursory Glance. She’s won since, looks sure to appreciate the extra furlong and will hopefully win.
If she doesn’t, it will most likely be one of Marsh Hawk and Agnes Stewart that benefits. Agnes has very good, progressive form, and is proven at a mile. It’s that last point which tips the scales in her favour, as Marsh Hawk is not certain to stay despite a clear cut win last time over seven (in a small field).
I’ve written more about this race here.

I really hope we’re still rolling after leg one, for reasons elaborated upon in the preview post. If we are, then we’ll have a better than evens chance of collecting, courtesy of the top pair in the Dewhurst. Clear form pick is Estidhkaar, a smart horse that has already shown form on soft, and over seven furlongs. He’s won at Newmarket too, albeit on the July course, and remains relatively fresh after four runs.
If his standard is to be bettered, it may be by the fast improving Smuggler’s Cove. Aidan O’Brien’s colt won a Listed race last Friday by seven lengths on the sand at Dundalk. Clearly this is a different test entirely but he’s the ‘now’ colt in the race, and that often counts for plenty at this time of year.
Again, more gen on the race can be found here.
4 x 0.5pt doubles as follows:
Lucida / Estidhkaar @ 4.76/1 (13/8 & 6/5 : BetVictor)
Lucida / Smuggler’s Cove @ 12.1/1 (13/8 & 4/1 : bet365)
Agnes Stewart / Estidhkaar @ 11.1/1 (9/2 & 6/5 : BetVictor)
Agnes Stewart / Smuggler’s Cove @ 24/1 (4/1 & 4/1 : bet365)
