Stat of the Day, 29th October 2014
Chris is off on hols for a fortnight now, and I’m in the departures lounge about to fly to Breederscupsville, so it’s an early posting with no prices available. Talking of departures, Wednesday’s pick is a real ‘off road’ type, and it may not suit everyone.
Mister W signed off with a lovely drifter: Geordan Murphy was posted as a 5/2 BOG shout, and won at 10/3 – just how we like ’em!
It’s back to the early days of SotD (way back in late 2011) when we used to go long from time to time, for Wednesday. There’s very little of appeal on Wednesday, so I’m taking a big punt in an amateur riders’ race, the…
This horse came up on two reports I check every day, The Shortlist and Horses For Courses.
Thought not quite a ‘line of green’ on The Shortlist, he does have three greens and an amber, which is pretty good for a horse expecting to be something like 20/1. He also shows up on H4C, with three wins from five starts at the track.
Not only that, but because of his no name connections, Steel Rain figures to pass under the radar for most people. And yet, he’s a three time winner on good to soft over five furlongs, from six starts. And he’s now four pounds below his last winning mark; and, taking into account jockey Matthew Cosham’s three pound claim, just three pounds higher than when winning this race last year, as an 8/1 chance.
With a nice middle to high draw, and a midfield running style, this smooth traveller could well make the frame, and might just win. Each way is the call, and 20/1 four places is available BOG with bet365, BetVictor and Paddy.
Like I say, it won’t be for everyone, and we’ll try to get back to normal on Thursday, but I do quite like the chance of this one at the likely prices.
Don’t forget, we offer a full interactive racecard service every day,
