Stat of the Day, 4th November 2014
Only the second ‘P’ on Bear’s Affair’s 18 race card was the tale of woe yesterday, and he may have had a serious problem such was the swiftness with which he went from going well to nothing.
Today I was going to side with ‘line of green’ contender Cue Card in the Haldon Gold Cup (2.15 Exeter) but the market vibes were not what I’d hoped for, so I’m ducking him in favour of a tea time tickle in the…
Ed Walker is our man today, the trainer saddling a pair on the beach this evening. It’s his runner in the handicap that we’re interested in, Glorious Sun.
Just four races into his career, and Glorious Sun already has a win over the course and distance to his name. That was last time out on his first attempt on this track, and he now steps into handicap company for the first time off a rating of 82.
Whilst that’s not a penalty kick, the yard are in great form – as demonstrated by the green 14 and 30 on the card, denoting top form in the past fortnight and month – and George Baker keeps the ride. Baker rode him for the first time the last day when he won, and his own record here in the past year is a 20% strike rate for a £22.56 level stakes profit to a £1 stake.
Glorious Sun will likely make the running or sit very handy, and that’s an excellent policy at speed-favouring Kempton. Although the 5/2 Coral offer is at the shorter end of what I’m happy to play, I think there are enough positives about Ed Walker’s runner and, as importantly, enough negatives against most of his rivals to justify the play. Win only, BOG.
