A real mixed bag of week either side of Big Ben’s chimes as we kicked off with two decent placers at 5/2 and 6/1, before we lost a meeting at Uttoxeter and backed that up with a poor run on New Year’s Day.

Teddy Tee was a good winner on Friday, before Black Truffle finished 6th of 8 runners, despite only going down by 2.5 lengths. No great disasters on the, but just one winner from five.

Thankfully, we’d got on at 6/1, ensuring 2pts profit on the week at an ROI of 40% and it also raised the question of the E/W bet. Many people are tempted to go E/W at 6/1 or higher, but I’m fairly reluctant to back horses E/W. Had we backed Tuesday’s and Friday’s 6/1 shots E/W, we’d have increased our strike rate but decreased our profits/ROI and it’s the profits I’m more concerned in.
