Double Dutch, 2nd March 2015
Saturday’s are notoriously difficult days for many of us to make a profit, but the Double Dutch continues to astound with yet another winning Saturday double, as the longer picks combined to make a 14.17/1 success.
Race 1 was at Doncastaer, where Call The Cops (adv 10/3) was a 3/1 winner, finishing five lengths ahead of his nearest rival, whilst Batavir who had been backed in from 15/8 to 6/4 was the last of 6 to finish, beaten by some 36 lengths!
It was a closer affair at Lingfield an hour an a half later, where our two runners, Thomas Blossom & Precision Five were both sent off at 5/4 and were separated by just a head at the finish. The exacta paid a paltry 2.7/1, but thankfully we’d taken 5/2 about the winner, which meant we ended the month in style.
Saturday’s results were as follows:
Call The Cops : WON at 3/1 (adv 10/3)
Batavir : u/p at 6/4 (adv 15/8)
——————————————
Thomas Blossom : WON at 5/4 (adv 5/2)
Precision Five : 2nd at 5/4 (adv 15/8)
(The exacta paid out at just 2.7/1 here!)
Results to date:
505 winning selections from 1760 = 28.64%
159 winning bets in 456 days = 34.87%
Stakes: 911.50pts
Returns: 1019.90pts
P/L : +108.40pts (+11.89% ROI)
REMINDER: THERE IS NO DOUBLE DUTCH ON SUNDAYS
We now start a new month with the aim of emulating the fantastic success of February (see Feb’s results right here), starting with this pair of races today…
Six are set to go to post for this one and a couple already look like not being good enough based on past efforts over hurdles.
The best of these on the Flat was probably Mick Channon’s Needless Shouting who won twice at 1m6f last summer and showed he’ll get this trip by just being narrowly beaten over 2m at Chester at a higher grade than this. This horse was travelling well before falling at Doncaster 12 days ago and provided there’s no after-effect, I expect him to take this at 5/2 BOG.
There are a couple of interesting newcomers here, none more so that Response, who is also priced up at 5/2 BOG. Despite failing to win any of the six maidens he contested on the Flat, he did make the frame in all of them, before taking 11 months away from the track.
He reappeared last July for a debut run for his new trainer Steve Gollings and after just one handicap contest over 1m3f on good to firm ground, he was put back away, presumably to be schooled as a hurdler. Step forward another 215 days and here is and not only does Response get to make his hurdles bow in a poor-looking race, he has the benefit of AP McCoy in the saddle, whose name looks a little out of place when you see which other jockeys he’ll face.
*
The only two runners with any real recent form here are Don’t Call Me Oscar and Zero Visibility and whilst it’s possible neither will win, it’s probably more likely that they’ll be the first two home.
Don’t Call Me Oscar (2/1 BOG) seeks a 4-timer and whilst he’s now some 25lbs higher in the ratings than at the start of his run, the manner of his victories suggests there is still more to come. He gets the trip readily, likes the cut in the ground and has a good record at this Class 5 level.
Once you take jockey claims into consideration, he’s just 5lbs higher than he was when winning at Wincanton last Wednesday and with the going being much less taxing than the heavy ground that day, his stamina shouldn’t be too stretched.
Zero Visibility has been the winner twice and the runner-up once in his last four efforts over hurdles and returns to this sphere after a decent third place on his chasing bow at Bangor last Wednesday. He wasn’t beaten by too far, getting within 5 lengths of a proven (and 91-rated) chaser who was landing back to back wins that day.
Running off 80 today, Zero Visibility is getting weight from pretty much all his rivals here and any repeat of his recent hurdling form will put him in the frame at the very least and with all his best form coming at this grade, trip and soft ground, he’s a real contender at 100/30 BOG with SkyBet.
4 x 0.5pt BOG doubles as follows:
Needless Shouting / Don’t Call Me Oscar @ 9.50/1 (5/2 & 2/1 : Paddy Power)
Needless Shouting / Zero Visibility @ 14.17/1 (5/2 & 10/3 : SkyBet)
Response / Don’t Call Me Oscar @ 9.50/1 (5/2 & 2/1 : Bet365 & Betfair SB)
Response / Zero Visibility @ 13/1 (5/2 & 3/1 : Bet365 & Betfair SB)
