Double Dutch, 12th March 2015

Young Bridget Andrews managed to bag herself yet another winner yesterday on the 5/2 BOG Masterful Act in the second leg of our double, taking her tally to 8/31 on Dan Skelton’s horses and this was her 6th winner from her last 10 rides. Hats off to Bridget.

Unfortunately our hat-trick bid had already been scuppered up at Southwell, as Walk Like A Giant’s 7 length defeat back in third place was the “best” we could manage there.

Wednesday’s results were as follows:

Walk Like A Giant : 3rd at 3/1 (adv 4/1)
Royal Holiday : u/p at 9/2 (adv 7/2)
——————————————
Masterful Act : WON at 2/1 (adv 5/2)
Superior Fire : u/p at 5/1 (adv 10/3)

161 winning bets in 465 days = 34.62%

I was tempted to take in day 3 at Cheltenham

1.55 Towcester:

Alan King has a good record here at Towcester and stands a good chance of another winner at this track in the shape of Presenting Lisa, whose jockey Tom Bellamy (6/20 in the last month) is in fine form too. She finished 321 in the PTP races, suggesting she’ll have enough to see out the trip and was an easy winer on her debut under Rules, winning a bumper here on this track by 10 lengths three months ago.

She has made just one other start since and although beaten into fourth over 2m 5.5f on soft ground at Huntingdon on her hurdles debut two months ago, she’ll come on for having had the experience, this is a weaker race on better ground and the runner-up that day has since finished second and first in two outings. Not all horses cope with the undulating nature of this track, so her bumper win will stand her in good stead and Presenting Lisa is currently priced up at 7/4 BOG for this one.

Her main rival looks like being Nicky Henderson’s Leaderofthedance, the yard’s only non-Festival runner of the day. She was also a bumper winner on debut and has since shown some promise in three starts over hurdles, especially when finishing third first time up here at Towcester. She finished full of running at Taunton last time out, after being outpaced mid-race, suggesting that today’s extra two furlongs on a stiffer trip would suit her a little better.

Her yard are very good at finding weak contests to get their runners (particularly the mares) off the mark and it’s interesting to see them send just the one horse here today. Leaderofthedance does, of course, have the favourite to deal with, but that one aside, there’s not much depth/quality here and a 2/1 BOG bet here might not be the worst move of the day.

8.10 Chelmsford:

Dynamo Walt‘s record over course and distance here is one win and one runner-up finish from two attempts and after getting to within three parts of a length of the winner at Lingfield last time out, looks the most likely to win here, now that he drops in class. He has made the frame on fove of his last six runs and the only exception to that was a 4th place run at Wolverhampton two starts ago.

That was also at a higher grade than this and he was still only narrowly beaten that day too (Nk, Nk, Hd!) in a race where 1.5 lengths covered the first seven home. Any repeat of either of those two efforts should be enough for Dynamo Walt to take this at 11/4 BOG.

The real danger comes if once again he lets Come On Dave run away with it early doors, as he did here back in January, when Come On Dave fairly bolted away at the start and opened up a large unassailable lead and although the pack came back to him towards the end, he’d already done enough to win by 5 lengths. Similar tactics are likely to be employed today and if he’s allowed to dictate again, he could very well be a repeat winner at 5/2 BOG.

It should, however, be noted, that Dynamo Walt is 7lbs better off with Come On Dave today.

4 x 0.5pt BOG doubles as follows:

Presenting Lisa / Come On Dave @ 8.63/1 (7/4 & 5/2 : Paddy Power & BetVictor)
Presenting Lisa / Dynamo Walt @ 9.31/1 (7/4 & 11/4 : Bet365, betVictor & Coral)
Leaderofthedance / Come On Dave @ 9.50/1 (2/1 & 5/2 : BetVictor)
Leaderofthedance / Dynamo Walt @ 10.25/1 (2/1 & 11/4 : BetVictor & Coral)
