Stat of the Day, 25th March 2015
Deep frustration on Tuesday, as I nominated Thomas Blossom on the basis that he’d be prominently ridden in a falsely run race. Imagine my chagrin then when Probert yanked him back to last place despite a favourable rail draw. The rest is predictable stuff: an inevitable sprint for the line with our boy having more ground than the rest to make up, and failing by only a head and a half length. In running comment: “Held up, ran on”. He drifted to a very attractive 4/1 as well. Hey ho, we can’t win them all, and I still think he’s well handicapped and should win again soon.
To Wednesday, and the very last race of the day, the…
A mile and three furlongs to race in this Class 4 all weather handicap, where I’m siding with the long absent Troopingthecolour. Despite having been off the track for 418 days, Steve Gollings’ flag bearer has a lot in his favour assuming the fire still burns in his nine year old belly.
Hope that it does comes from many quarters. First, he defied an even longer absence to win a course, distance and class handicap in October 2013 at 14/1. He was nominated on The Shortlist that day, when I was still manually crafting that particular episode in geegeez tipping, and he appears on the mechanized version of the same report for tomorrow.
Indeed, he has the full ‘line of green’ top scoring 15 profile. Here’s why: he’s won four of his six all weather starts, two out of four at Kempton, and two out of three in Class 4 company. He’s won one of his two 1m3f races, and has won three of six small field affairs. Moreover, he races here off exactly the same mark of 85 that he did when scoring under those exact same conditions almost eighteen months ago.
With just seven runners, each way is most unattractive, and we’ll have to wear it if he finishes second. But it’s the full point to win, at 7/1 BOG with PP and bet365. (Note, Ladbrokes are also 7/1 but not BOG until 10am Wednesday morning). Make sure that’s still the top offer by…
