Double Dutch

Double Dutch, 4th April 2015

So close and yet… Good Friday was anything but, as we had the winner in the first leg, and the second and third in leg two, including a most unlucky-in-running neck second. That the third was only another neck away adds salt to the wound.

My last day compiling Double Dutch before Chris’ return on Monday.

Friday’s results were as follows:

Pretend: WON at 6/5 (adv 6/4)
Chookie Royale: 3rd at 9/2 (adv 11/2)
——————————————
Sovereign Debt: 2nd at 5/2 (adv 3/1)
Captain Joy: 3rd at 5/1 (adv 6/1)

Results to date:
535 winning selections from 1873 = 28.56%
166 winning bets in 485 days = 34.23%

REMINDER: THERE IS NO DOUBLE DUTCH ON SUNDAYS

1.25 Haydock:

Short on time, due to the early start for this one, so I’ll keep it brief. Village Vic is five pounds below his hurdles rating, and looks to be progressive over fences. He likes soft ground and could be the best handicapped horse in the race.

Ifandbutwhynot needs a flat track like this. He gets the McCoy treatment (won on him two starts back) and though having a frustrating knack of finishing second, he’s genuine enough – just a bit one paced. Soft ground down this long straight with McCoy driving could make the difference.

2.20 Carlisle:

Ignoring the temptation to go for a ‘hail mary’ pair on my last day, if we get through leg one, we’ll play up that with what looks a pretty solid duo in this novices’ chase.

Tango De Juilley needs soft ground and he gets that here. Venetia is back in a bit of form and has a great course record (3/10 in the last year, 8/28 since 2009). A rating of 145 would be high enough to win most novice chases…

…but it’s only two clear of Barafundle‘s 143 mark. His trainer, Jennie Candlish, is also in good form, and though this lad is eleven now, he seems to be better than ever. This will be only his second ever chase start, so he might still be a bit sketchy over his obstacles, but he’s a stout stayer and a classy old boy.

4 x 0.5pt BOG doubles as follows:

Village Vic/ Tango De Juilley @ 8/1 (3/1 & 5/4: Boylesports)
Village Vic / Barafundle @ 9/1 (3/1 & 6/4 : Boylesports)
Ifandbutwhynot / Tango De Juilley @ 10.25/1 (4/1 & 5/4 : Boylesports)
Ifandbutwhynot / Barafundle @ 11.5/1 (4/1 & 6/4: Boylesports)
