Double Dutch, 3rd June 2015
Tuesday was very disappointing at Brighton for us. Two 6-runner races only yielded a third place, a fourth and two fifths in a day best forgotten, if truth be told. There didn’t seem to be any hard luck stories or such like, the picks simply weren’t good enough.
Tuesday’s results were as follows:
Raj To Riches : 4th at 10/3 (adv 15/8)
Auxiliary : 5th at 5/2 (adv 7/2)
Double Czech: 3rd at 7/4 (adv 5/2)
Lu’s Buddy : 5th at 9/4 (adv 2/1)
Results to date:
588 winning selections from 2062 = 28.52%
186 winning bets in 534 days = 34.83%
P/L : +104.50pts (+9.79% ROI)
REMINDER: THERE IS NO DOUBLE DUTCH ON SUNDAYS
I really need better from trhese on Wednesday…
Gun Shy got off the mark over fences at athe tird time of asking last time out with a very comfortable 7 lengths success at Towcester a little over three weeks ago and although that was over 2m 0.5f, he is expected to cope with the step up to 2m3f today, as he’s already won over hurdles here at Fontwell at 2m4f. Previous course success is usaually a benefit here and he seemed to have plenty in hand last time out and could well land this at 5/2 BOG, despite the penalty.
Conceding 7lbs to Minella Present might be his biggest worry, as this former bumper and dual hurdles winner has shaped like being a decent chaser based on the evidence of two solid runs to date over inadequate trips of 2m 0.5f. All his best form has come over longer in the past and the step up in trip here should also play to his strengths.
Both jockey and trainer have good records here at Fontwell and both have been firing the winners in during the last few weeks and they’ll be hoping Minella present is the latest at 13/8 BOG.
Big Baz wasn’t at his best in the Victoria Cup at Ascot last month , yet despite that and the fact he was hampered late on, he still got to within 5.5 lengths of an impressive winner. Prior to that he had run an excellent third in the Spring Cup and although this is still Class 2 racing, it is the lower end of that sphere and he has gone well at this level in the past.
Soft ground and the trip hold no fears for him and he operated better in smaller fields, unlike the last two big handicaps he has contested. Conditions look far more in his favour today and I’d fancy him to land this at 11/4 BOG.
There are a couple who would be expected to challenge him here, but I’m going to go with Homage, whose trainer and jockey are both in good nick and he looks quite favourably treated based upon last season’s exploits. He never really got involved at York last time out on his return from a 216 day absence, but that was also a step up to Listed class.
Prior to that run, he had won four of his previous nine outings, he’s also 2 from 2 at this trip, 1 from 1 on soft ground and 2 from 3 going left handed, all of which point to a decent run at 7/2 BOG today.
4 x 0.5pt BOG doubles as follows:
Minella Present / Big Baz @ 8.84/1 (13/8 & 11/4 : BetVictor)
Minella Present / Homage @ 10.81/1 (13/8 & 7/2 : BetVictor)
Gun Shy / Big Baz @ 12.13/1 (5/2 & 11/4 : SkyBet & BetVictor)
Gun Shy / Homage @ 14.75/1 (5/2 & 7/2 : SkyBet, BetVictor & Coral)
