Double Dutch, 2nd July 2015
July started off in a very similar manner to how June ended ie a winning double with the added bonus of a 1-2 finish in race 1.
Unlike Tuesday, however, the longer-priced of the two runners was first home in race 1, giving us a 4/1 win going onto race and made the exacta a decent 12/1.
We couldn’t, however, quite complete the ultimate DD day, as we had to settle for 1st and 3rd ten minutes later. It did mean, though, that we landed ourselves a double at 17.75/1, which took us beyond the 125pts barrier and puts us just a handful of wins away from 200 overall!
Wednesday’s results were as follows:
St Maxime : WON at 4/1 (adv 6/4)
Xaarcet : 2nd at 9/5 (adv 4/1)
The Exacta paid £13.00 here.
Wak A Turtle : WON at 11/4 (adv 11/4)
Lord of the Dunes : 3rd at 15/8 (adv 11/4)
Results to date:
615 winning selections from 2158 = 28.50%
195 winning bets in 559 days = 34.88%
P/L : +125.69pts (+11.25% ROI)
REMINDER: THERE IS NO DOUBLE DUTCH ON SUNDAYS
These are Thursday’s chosen races…
Priory and IT Guru were separated by just half a length at Windsor 17 days ago and I’d expect them to be closely matched once again today.
IT Guru is, however, 4lbs better off here and is the one who looks most likely to improve for the run as that was only his 2nd ever run and his first for 7 weeks. Both trainer and jockey have good records at the track and the Hannon / Hughes / 2yo combo is always one to watch out for. It’ll be tight today, but I just favour IT Guru at 6/4 BOG.
Priory will, however, put up a decent fight of it. She has already had the benefit of a winning run here on this track, when landing a 5f maiden on debut in early April and then finished 463 in the space of a fortnight at the start of last month. She looked a little tired late on in that last run, a 6f seller at Windsor, but might go better having had 17 days to recover this time. Priory is currently at 7/4 BOG.
Please note, these are a bit shorter than I’d normally go with, but two have pulled out whilst I was typing, affecting the market!
Honourable Gent was in good form over hurdles, before making a winning debut over fences, getting home by 7 lengths at Carlisle in early May. His next run, just 9 days later, possibly came a little too soon and his jumping was a little laboured/lazy at times. He has now been rested for almost 7 weeks, takes a drop in class and both his trainer and jockey are in good form.
He was 5th last time out, beaten by less than 6 lengths in total. The winner from that race hasn’t reappeared yet, but ther horses in 2nd, 3rd and 4th have all won since, so the form seems to be working out well enough and you can get 7/4 BOG about Honourable Gent here.
The danger is likely to come from the consistent Moonlight Maggie, who has recorded eight consecutive top 4 finishes over fences, including 2 wins and 3 runner-up placings. Both trip and ground conditions look ideal for her today and we’re buoyed by the booking of Paddy Brennan in the saddle.
The Brennan / George partnership is a formidable one over fences and with an in-form mare receiving 20lbs from the favourite, Moonlight Maggie should be very competitive at 5/2 BOG.
4 x 0.5pt BOG doubles as follows:
IT Guru / Honourable Gent @ 5.88/1 (6/4 & 7/4 : SkyBet, Betfred & Totesport)
IT Guru / Moonlight Maggie @ 7.13/1 (6/4 & 9/4 : BetVictor & Betway)
Priory / Honourable Gent @ 6.56/1 (7/4 & 7/4 : SkyBet)
Priory / Moonlight Maggie @ 7.53/1 (13/8 & 9/4 : Bet365, BetVictor & Betway)
