A bit of a day to forget yesterday as we found no winners!
We had a placer and a 6th place finish in each race with our best efforts coming from Chelwood Gate, a 1.75L runner-up at Lingfield and Bridge Builder’s 2.75L defeat in finishing third at Kempton.
Not the best day, so let’s crack on!
Tuesday’s results were as follows:
Chelwood Gate : 2nd at 9/4 (adv 11/4)
Wink Oliver : 6th at 11/4 (adv 5/2)
Bridge Builder : 3rd at 15/8 (adv 2/1)
Invectus Hero : 6th at 2/1 (adv 3/1)
Results to date:
785 winning selections from 2816 = 27.88%
244 winning bets in 729 days = 33.47%
P/L : +83.40pts (+5.72% ROI)
You don’t see too many David Pipe runners on the A/W, so attention is immediately drawn to his 9/4 BOG chance, Honeymoon Cocktail here. Closer inspection of this horse’s recent efforts show a win over this trip at this grade last time out at Lingfield, when he readily scored by 3 lengths going away. Rob Hornby was riding him for the first time today and the partnership remains intact here.
He won off a mark of 70 last time out, the runner-up has won since and with a 3lb jockey claim more than negating a 1lb rise in weight (no claim LTO), I can see another decent performance from Honeymoon Cocktail on the cards.
The lighlty raced Horseguardsparade makes just his fourth start on the A/W today, but has already won over course and distance. He was possibly ridden a little too aggressively on the Wolverhampton tapeta on his last two outings and a more relaxed approach on a surface he seems to handle better could be the key today. There are a few who’ll want to lead here, so if he sits and waits, it could be a very good opportunity for Horseguardsparade to pick off the leaders late on for a win at 7/2 BOG.
Kung Hei Fat Choy looks best in at the weights and has an impressive past record with 5 track wins with 2 over course and distance. He’s a USA-bred male runner and it’s fairly common knowledge that those types go well in these lower grade races here at Southwell and trainer James Given’s runners generally go well on the A/W in winter, especially on this track, all pointing to a good effort here from Kung Hei Fat Choy at around 2/1 BOG.
The best recent form, however, belongs to Greyfriarschorista, who was a winner here over 6f last time out. The way he put 3.5 lengths between himself and the runner-up suggests more to come stepping up to this 7f trip and the third place horse (beaten by 5L) has since won here at Southwell 11 days ago. And with a 4/12 record on this track, another 5/2 BOG win for Greyfriarschorista wouldn’t be too much of a surprise.
4 x 0.5pt BOG doubles as follows…
Honeymoon Cocktail / Kung Hei Fat Choy @ 10.38/1 (9/4 & 5/2 : Stan James)
Honeymoon Cocktail / Greyfriarschorista @ 10.38/1 (9/4 & 5/2 : Hills)
Horseguardsparade / Kung Hei Fat Choy @ 14.75/1 (7/2 & 5/2 : Stan James)
Horseguardsparade / Greyfriarschorista @ 14.75/1 (7/2 & 5/2 : generally)
REMINDER: THERE IS NO DOUBLE DUTCH ON SUNDAYS
