A winner/placer combo yesterday meant we were in the right vicinity, but not the money!
On yet another day where it paid to run prominently at Lingfield, out teo hold-up horses had too much ground to make up and finished third and fourth, beaten by 5.75 and 6.25 lengths respectively.
Thankfully, personal pride was at least restored a little when On A Whim stayed on well to win by a length and a quarter, leaving us rueing another day that got away!
Friday’s results were as follows:
Smugglers Lane : 3rd at 7/4 (adv 9/4)
Shirataki : 4th at 7/2 (adv 11/4)
On A Whim : WON at 7/4 (adv 2/1)
Queen Zain : 5th at 5/2 (adv 5/2)
Results to date:
791 winning selections from 2848 = 27.77%
245 winning bets in 737 days = 33.24%
P/L : +72.65pts (+4.93% ROI)
Barters Hill’s defection to Doncaster has surely made this a 2 horse race, hasn’t it? I hope so anyway, as I’m siding with Yanworth and Shantou Village.
Shantou Village was a winner on his only crack at an Irish PTP at Loughanmore, so stamina should be fine today and since dropping back from that 3m trip to run under Rules, is now 3 from 3 including a course and distance win last time out. His yard go well here and he has the positive booking of track specialist Ruby Walsh to boost confidence. Ruby has been firing the winners in of late and will be hopeful of another at 5/2 BOG here, but…
…he’ll have to beat Yanworth to do so. This 6yr old has won 5 of his 7 starts to date and after a very impressive 4th of 23 in the Champion Bumper here in March (only beaten by 3 lengths), has won all three of his runs over hurdles, including a Grade 2 soft ground contest last time out and with conditions set to be difficult again today, that soft ground experience might just tip things his way at 2/1 BOG.
Bubble Boru just loves the mud, mind you she’s trained by Venetia Williams, so it’s to be expected. She has won 3 from 9 on heavy ground (2 from 4 over hurdles) and although beaten by 12 lengths last time out as a runner-up, there was no disgrace in getting beaten by Black Narcissus, who has since complketed a hat-trick of wins.
Bubble Boru was conceding a stone to her victor that day, but the roles are reversed today and back on a very workable mark, she looks dangerous lurking at the bottom of the weights at around 7/2 BOG.
The one to beat will be Blameitalonmyroots (9/4 BOG), a really consistent sort who stays well in tough conditions, as typified by a win over 3 miles on heavy ground on her chasing debut at Bangor two starts ago, where she had Subtle Grey some 16 lengths behind her, yet the latter has a win and a runner-up finish to his name from his two subsequent runs.
A run just 18 days later possibly came too soon after the Bangor exertions, but having rested for 45 days now and only racing against her own sex, Blameitalonmyroots will have every chance to amend for her last run.
4 x 0.5pt BOG doubles as follows…
Yanworth / Blameitalonmyroots @ 8.75/1 (2/1 & 9/4 : 10Bet & Paddy Power)
Yanworth / Bubble Boru @ 14/1 (2/1 & 4/1 : Coral)
Shantou Village / Blameitalonmyroots @ 10.38/1 (5/2 & 9/4 : Paddy Power & BetVictor)
Shantou Village / Bubble Boru @ 16.50/1 (5/2 & 4/1 : Coral)
REMINDER: THERE IS NO DOUBLE DUTCH ON SUNDAYS
