Stat of the Day, 11th April 2016

Saturday’s Result :

4.30 Sedgefield: Card Game @ 4/1 BOG WON at 2/1 (Led 2 out, drew clear)

A welcome change of luck on Saturday, as Card Game, backed from an advised 4/1 into 2/1 at the off, bolted up. There weren’t too many anxious moments even though Card Game did briefly look tapped for toe. She had deeper stamina reserves than the oppo, however, and scuttled away to win by ten lengths.

Monday’s runner goes in the…

2.00 Redcar

I make no apology for siding with another trainer/jockey combo stat after Saturday’s welcome fillip. And that is about all we have to go on this time, with Mulwith being an unraced maiden two year old!

Here’s why I’m interested:

David Barron is an excellent trainer in the north of England, and a very good trainer of sprinters on soft or heavy ground.

His record when Graham Gibbons, retained jockey, rides in the last five years at Redcar is 15 from 69 (21.74% strike rate) for 50.02 points profit (72.49% ROI)

Barron has had five winners from 11 runners in the past fortnight (45.45% SR) for 26.88 units profit, so he’s in great form. He’s trained six juvenile debut runners for races on heavy ground in recent years, with two of them winning for a profit of nine points.

Mulwith cost €56,000 as a yearling, which is quite expensive for one of Barron’s, and the trainer’s only other 2yo debut runner so far this season, Wick Powell, won last week.

So, completely on spec, it’s a one point win bet on David Barron’s Mulwith, at 3/1 with Paddy (generally 11/4).
