Monday’s Result :

2.45 Southwell: Dealing River e/w @ 14/1 BOG (9.8/1 after 30p Rule 4) 5th at 7/1 (Tracked leader, outpaced in 4th before 3 out, kept on and no impression)

No respite on Monday, as the rain undid what might have been at least a placed effort. Going was good when I put the pick up, light showers forecast. Naturally, it tipped down and the ground was soft come race time. Dealing River’s form on soft is not worthy of nomination for SotD and, though he was only beaten two lengths for third place, it’s another dastardly loser I’m afraid.

We’re probably all thrilled to discover that Chris returns tomorrow but, before that, I hope I can repair at least some of the damage with a pick in the…

4.15 Brighton:

Who?

Your first 30 days for just £1

Dltripleseven at 9/2 BOG

Why?

Richard Hughes rode plenty of winners at Brighton during his jockey days and, in a very promising start to his training career, he’s already saddled three winners from eight runners at the quirky seaside track.

They were value for a modest +5.75 point profit, and another thing worthy of note about Hughes’ fledgling training career is his ability to ready one first time in a handicap.

Regular readers will know of my affection for trainers that “know the price of fish” in this regard, and Hughes is a new name on the list. So far, he’s sent out eleven handicap debutants: three have come back winners, and another three have made the frame. Eighteen points profit were harvested from that trio of ‘cap debut winners to date.

Dltripleseven looks a likely type. The obligatory three runs in maidens has seen two nothing runs and one fourth place of nine on soft ground. He was five lengths closer to the winner that day than either of the other two efforts, which is good news because the forecast going is soft.

Stepping up in trip to a mile should eke out more improvement, and there’s every chance the three-and-a-half week break has allowed the trainer to, erm, tighten the bolts.

Dltripleseven should go very close and can be backed at 9/2 BOG with bet365. It’s a one point win bet with them. Many thanks for your support, and I really wish we’d had better results during my stint. Beating the market comprehensively almost every day is the way to long-term profit, but heck, we need regular winners to keep the confidence up. Keep the faith, and…
