Race of the Day – 21 July
Race of the Day – 19:25 Doncaster
Doncaster host an evening card today and we’re going to take a look at a 0-80 handicap for three year olds run over six furlongs, and ten runners currently go to post.
Roll On Rory is seeking a hat trick and he is the highest rated on the Speed Ratings, seven clear of Evenlode and well clear of the rest. The official ratings have the entire field only separated by six pounds, which shows it is a very evenly matched field officially.
The short priced favourite, Gravity is the least exposed of the field having run just three times. If we take a look at the full form tab we can see that one of those runs was on turf (good) and the other two on the artificial surfaces of Kempton and Lingfield. He is entering handicap company for the first time today, as highlighted by the HC next to the horses name, and this will be the first time he has encountered ground this firm. He may well handle it completely fine, but it is a short enough price to be taking the chance on that for me.
Looking at the Instant Expert tab it shows us that Roll On Rory has a good line of green, all apart form at the course. However, from his two runs here (again taken from the full form filler) he has a second place on the same ground so we can be happy enough with that. It should be noted that he is five pounds higher than he last winning mark as noted on the right hand side under ‘Rating’.
From the Pace tab it shows us that Tikthebox is usually keen to lead and a lot of the rest of the field like to be prominent. This could mean it gets pretty busy just in behind the leader with several horses jostling for position. Market Choice looks like he is the one horse that definitely likes to be held up, and if the rest of the field are taking each other on up front, it could potentially be set up nicely for him.
