Race of the Day – 3 Oct

Race of the Day – 15:00 Pontefract

A 0-95 handicap for three year olds over one mile at Pontefract with a bit of cut underfoot as the going is currently good to soft.

It is interesting to see that Rainbow Rebel has won four races in a row, however when looking at the Full Form Filter we can see they were in lower grade races and he has gone up the handicap a long way.

A few of the runners show up quite well on the Instant Expert tab. Rainbow Rebel is one of those as he has a 100% record over the distance and on the going. The rating section shows that he has gone up another six pounds after his last win and he may be plenty high enough in the handicap now.

The bottom weight Billy Roberts also looks good here. He has three sections of green and one of amber, so is clearly at home in today’s conditions. He is also just four pounds higher than for his victory, therefore he is an interesting contender at 16/1.

Leaders at Pontefract have an excellent record which can be seen from looking at the pace tab. Horses that lead over this distance have a win record of over 23%, which shows it is definitely worth paying attention to the runner that are likely to be at the head of affairs early on.

Both Rainbow Rebel and Billy Roberts are usually right up there in their races so should be fighting it out for the lead here today.

The Draw tab isn’t particularly conclusive, although it does reiterate what the Pace tab showed, and that is it is definitely beneficial to race right up with the pace. High numbers don’t have a great record however, so horses drawn mid to low are preferable.
