Race of the Day – 5 Oct

Race of the Day – 16:20 Towcester

This is a two mile novices’ chase with just the five runners, however a few of them are quite interesting and it’s a close betting heat between the front three in the market.

Saint Charles and Closest Friend are currently 5/4 and 6/4 respectively, and in McLernon and Skelton they have jockeys on top that have been in decent form of late.

Trainer Statistics is a free tool for everybody to use on Wedneesday’s, and it highlights that Neil Mulholland has a pretty decent corse record at Towcester over the past year. He has six winners (26.09%) and nine places (43.48%) from 23 runners. He runs Pinkie Brown here today who is having his first run over the fences.

The Instant Expert tab doesn’t show any of the runners in a particularly brilliant light, however Pinkie Brown does have a bit of form over this distance and against the field.

The pace of the race is tough to figure out as the runners have been ridden differently pace wise in their races of late. However it does look a possibility that Closest Friend will lead, and given he has won over further than today’s distance, he may try and make it a testing pace.

The favourite Saint Charles has also won over quite a bit further, therefore it will be intriguing to see how quickly Pinkie Brown, under Tom Scudamore, goes off from the start given this is his first chase.

Even though the are just the three horses that have a realistic chance of taking this, there are too many unknowns for me to be even a little bit confident about any of them, and this would be a no bet race for me.
