Race of the Day – 15:30 Newton Abbot
This is a nice looking novices’ handicap hurdle at Newton Abbot with some promising horses in the field.
Nachi Falls comes here off the back of a hat trick of hurdle wins, all of which have been on today’s good ground. He is making his handicap debut today and is due to go up six pounds in the future, so may be nicely well in, in his bid to complete a four timer.
Phillip Hobbs has two out the six runners, both of which also won last time out and Peter The Mayo Man is here looking for a hat trick of his own. Therefore, on the face of it, this is a very competitive event.
The Instant Expert report is an excellent feature of geegeez gold and it is free for every race, for all users on a Thursday.
Nachi Falls really stands out with a full line of green to his name. He appears to be really well suited with everything in his favour today, and I expect a really bold bid from him.
Peter The Mayo Man has grey sections for class, course and the number in the field having never raced in any of these. However, he has plenty of wins on the going and the distance.
Leaders here over this distance do have an advantage, however it is not particularly pronounced with the horses that are prominently ridden not that far behind in percentage terms.
Peter The Mayo Man led last time out and ran away an easy winner, therefore it is quite likely Noel Fehily will adopt similar tactics again.
Verni and Nachi Falls both like to race handily so will probably be happy to let Fehily take the lead and sit in behind him hoping to have enough when they get to the last few furlongs.
From the trainer snippets report, we can see that Nigel Hawke has an excellent record with ‘last time out’ (LTO) winners. From 32 runners he has 12 winners (37.5%) and 20 places (62.5%) for a win P/L of 28.86. This is really good going and lends even more weight to Nachi Falls.
