Breeders' Cup 2016 Form and Picks

Breeders’ Cup 2016 Form and Picks

Most of you will have heard the desperate news about Freddie Tylicki now. A young jockey, so much on the up that he was due to ride on the Breeders’ Cup under card today, he has had his world shattered after a fall at Kempton just a few days ago which has left him paralysed from the waist down.

It’s just too horrific to dwell on for long.

Jockeys do a very dangerous job. Yes, they do it by choice, but without them our sport is nothing.

There’s nothing much we can do for Freddie in real terms. He will have to take time to get to wherever he feels he can get to, and we send our most heartfelt best wishes to him.

But what we can do is recognise the effort he and his colleagues make, by contributing to the Injured Jockeys’ Fund, a charity whose sole aim is the support of guys and girls who come a cropper to one degree or another. Mercifully, their work is normally in less extreme circumstances.

I’M LEADING THE WAY ON THIS

I’m going to make a head start with this by donating £10 from every £20 sale of my Breeders’ Cup Compendium to IJF. Given that a sale is worth roughly £13.50 to geegeez after VAT, tax and fees, and that we have to pay affiliates half the money on some of those sales, I will probably make next to no profit on an endeavour that has taken five weeks to pull together.

But so the f*%@ what? I can still walk to the race track today.

I’LL MAKE IT EVEN EASIER FOR YOU

OK wait, I’ll make it even easier for you. I’ve put the link to download the guide FOR FREE below.

You can download it without paying if you like

If you like it, or appreciate the gesture, and are in a position to donate/pay for it, then that’s great.

I want to be able to send a donation for at least £2000 to IJF from us here at geegeez.co.uk, as a token that demonstrates we care about racing, and its actors, as well as having a punt. With your help, we can do that. It’s not much in the grand scheme, but it’s better than sitting back and doing nothing.

Please do help if you’re able. And remember to count your blessings today, regardless of what life lobs at you.

Thank you.
Matt

****

Breeders’ Cup 2016 is almost upon us. November 4th and 5th will see Santa Anita racecourse in California host the 32nd edition of the Breeders’ Cup, and there is a slew of European horses facing up to the locals.

Superstar Euros such as Limato, Alice Springs, Highland Reel, Seventh Heaven and Pleascach – and perhaps Arc winner Found in the Classic – are taking the long flight to the west coast where they’ll lock horns with the likes of Royal Ascot winner, Tepin, and Dubai World Cup champ, California Chrome, in what looks one of the deepest Breeders’ Cups ever.

As regular readers will know, I love the wagering challenge of the Breeders’ Cup, and I go to extravagant lengths to ‘tool up’ intel-wise ahead of the races. And, for the past couple of years, I’ve been happy to share the fruits of my labours for a very small fee. We had a pretty spectacular year last year with winners as follows:

Mongolian Saturday WON 25/1 adv
Stephanie’s Kitten WON 12/1 adv
Tepin WON 14/1 adv

Exacta – Liam’s Map to beat Lea (paid $12.20 for $2 stake)
Runhappy Next Best WON 7/2 adv
Songbird NAP WON 13/8 adv

Let’s be honest, the chances of repeating those results are pretty slim – and I did take a couple of bullets/back each way in some of the races. But it shows that there is a LOT of value to be had at this meeting, and that the approach I take can reap very healthy dividends. (Last year was a VERY good year!)

“What have you got, Matt?”

So what exactly have I got for you?

Geegeez’ Breeders’ Cup Compendium is your indispensable guide with all you need to know across two evenings of spectacular weekend racing. Inside the Compendium, you’ll find:

Key Race Trends: all the noteworthy trends for each event.

Profile Grids: every runner in every race mapped against the trends, including pace and odds (UK vs US morning line with a comparison to highlight possible value). This will be updated with stalls positions after the draw on 31st October.

Pace Profiles: each race is broken down by the likely overall pace, pockets of pace (i.e. clusters of speed), and individual pace observations for specific runners.

Key Trials: this section contains links to the key races in which Breeders’ Cup contenders advertised their claims. Most of these videos are in stunning high definition, and some of the performances are spectacular!

Race Summaries: a walkthrough of the form for each race, highlighting the major players.

Main Contenders, Other Possibles, and Race Selections: the horses in each race I feel are most likely to play leading roles; and, where applicable, some bigger priced horses that could outrun their odds. Finally, for each race, the geegeez selection.

Whether you want to play the UK vs US odds angle, or do your own digging, or just follow me in on a couple, I’ve got you covered.

“When is it available?”

The Breeders’ Cup Compendium will be released in stages. The release schedule is:

v0.1 (pre-entry grids, odds, trends, videos) 28-Oct Friday
v0.2 (as above, plus post positions) 01-Nov Tuesday
v0.5 (as above, plus Friday full) 02-Nov Wednesday
v0.7 (as above, plus Turf, Mile, Classic) 03-Nov Thursday
v1.0 (complete) 04-Nov Friday

For value hunters, getting in early is the way forward. Bookies are a bit ‘left and right’ at the moment, and I’ve already struck a few ante-post tickets taking advantage of some glorious disparity in their markets. These will tighten up as we get closer to post time and, naturally, as there is more certainty around the likely runners, post positions, and so on.

The first release of the Breeders’ Cup Compendium is available now for just £20.
