Race of the Day – 17:10 Sedgefield
We go to Sedgefield today, and a 0-115 rated handicap hurdle over two and a half miles.
Ethelwyn is trained by Malcolm Jefferson, and he has been in tremendous form of late. He has seven winners (33.33%) and 17 places (80.95%) from his last 21 runners, which is incredibly good form. He is also very useful here at Sedgefield, with a 27.08% strike rate over the past five years, for a level stakes profit of 42.55. Therefore, anything he runs is worth a second look.
The jockey on top of Ethelwyn today is Brian Hughes, and as he rides quite a bit for Jefferson, he has an equally good recent record together with that at the course.
The Instant Expert tab is the geegeez gold form tool that is free to all users on a Thursday, and it can be very useful indeed.
Here it shows us that Vic’s Last Stand has excellent form in today’s race conditions. She has three green sections and two of amber. She is two from two here at Sedgefield and is one of only two horses to have won on today’s going, with the same being true of today’s distance.
Another point to note is that she is second only to Down Time on the Speed Ratings, so I expect a decent showing from the Keith Reveley trained mare.
The Pace tab shows that leaders here have the best record, which is to be expected, and have won almost 22% of the time over the period in question.
There don’t appear to be any out and out front runners in today’s field, with quite a few of them usually content to sit in behind the leader. This could make for a slow pace, with nobody keen to get on with it. If it did happen this way, it would set the race up nicely for a fast finisher with a decent turn of foot.
The Trainer Snippets report has highlighted something quite interesting, and that is the record of Jefferson when his horses are moved up significantly in distance compared with their previous run. He has seven winners from 23 runners (30.43%), which shows he is quite astute at pulling this kind of thing off.
