Race of the Day – 31 Oct

Race of the Day – 15:45 Wexford

A two mile beginners chase at Wexford to start the week off for Race of the Day, and there is an odds on favourite for the Gordon Elliott and Ruby Walsh combination, Ball D’Arc.

If all eight runners stand their ground, it may present the opportunity of finding a little bit of value from an each way perspective.

The Instant Expert tab predictably shows Ball D’arc in a good light, with three sections of green to his name.

Interestingly however, it’s the 14/1 shot Prickly who shows up best here. He has three sections of green and one of amber, and is the only runner in the field to have won on today’s going. He has proven speed having won some reasonable races on the flat, and if he takes to the fences in a confident manner, he may be a good thing to make the frame and be there waiting for any errors from the jolly.

The pace of the race looks likely to come from the two Henry De Bromhead runners, as both like to get on with things. Our Dougal looks the probably leader, and he was running well when crashing out of his last race, where Ball D’Arc finished second. He may be able to stretch the field if his jumping holds up this time around.

The Sire Snippets report has thrown up something of interest for me. Baby Jake is sired by Morozov, and his record with jumpers of 6-8 year olds reads 27/156 for 79.42 points (17.31%). This is an excellent record over that number of horses and at 12/1, it makes Baby Jake worth a second look.
