Race of the Day – 18 Nov

Race of the Day – 14:55 Ffos Las

This is a two miles and six furlongs handicap hurdle for horses rated 0-130, and it is an open looking contest.

Rebecca Curtis, who runs Red Devil Lads here today, has been in fine form recently and has an excellent record at Ffos Las. Over the past five years she is 52/192 (27.08%) for a level stakes profit of 35.94. She also has a super record with horses returning after a break (60+ days). She has 23 winners from 117 runners (19.66%) for a level stakes profit of 58.58. Therefore, Red Devils Lad is one to pay attention to.

Driftwood Haze is the runner that really stands out on the Instant Expert tab, as he has a full line of green and is really nicely suited by today’s race conditions. He is just four pounds higher than for his last victory and he tops the Speed Ratings as well, so has plenty going for him.

Red Devils Lads is another that looks good on this report. He has three sections of green and one of amber, however he is 12 pounds higher than his last winning mark over hurdles, so will need to rediscover some form.

From looking at the Pace tab we can see that there is no real bias for the way in which a runners run the race. Prominent horses have the best record, but not by much and I wouldn’t want to put anyone off if their favoured horse had a different running style.

It looks almost certain that Red Devils Lads is going to lead them from the off, and when he was winning races in the early part of last year, he liked to try and make all. He definitely gets a lot further than today’s distance, therefore it seems likely that he will make it a test of stamina and try and run the rest of the field into the ground and burn off any finishing kick they may have.

Horses For Courses is a great tool for highlighting horses that appear to have a particular preference for a certain course, and really do well running there. It is also free for all users to use on a Friday.

Red Devils Lad has run at Ffos Las five times before, being placed in all five and winning three of them. He clearly revels in running here, and if the course can bring a return to something like his old hurdling form, then I think he has a great chance here today.
