2.10 Newbury :

Before I post the daily selection, just a quick reminder of how I operate the service. Generally, I’ll identify and share the selection in the evening before the following day’s race and I then add a detailed write-up later on that night/next morning.

Those happy to take the early price on trust can do so, whilst some might prefer to wait for my reasoning. As I fit the early service in around my family life, I can’t give an exact timing on the posts, so I suggest you follow us on Twitter and/or Facebook for instant notifications of a published pick.

Unowhatimeanharry @ 13/2 BOG

This classy 8 yr old returns to the fray after a break of 252 days, but that doesn’t concern me too much, as he returned from 254-day absence last November to win at Cheltenham and then proceeded to win another four on the bounce before being put back in his box after winning the Gr 1 Albert Bartlett, so although is a high quality race, it actually represents a drop in class for Harry Fry’s runner.

The yard is in good form, having had 9 winners from 37 in the last month, whilst Harry’s own record here at Newbury with horses in the 7/4 to 8/1 odds bracket is excellent at 9/25 (36% SR) for 14.54pts (+58.2% ROI), including of relevance here…

  • non-hcps : 7/17 (41.2%) for 10.6pts (+62.2%)
  • hurdlers : 4/11 (36.4%) for 7.8pts (+70.9%)
  • and in non-hcp hurdles : 3/7 (42.9%) for 5.65pts (+80.7%)

And finally back to our runner, Unowhatimeanharry, who is 5 from 16 over hurdles, but of significance today…

  • 3/7 in November/December
  • 5/5 since a switch to Harry Fry
  • 2/3 in Group/Grade races (inc that Gr1 win)
  • 2/3 on soft ground
  • 2/2 at 3 miles
  • 2/2 at the age of 8
  • 1/1 here at Newbury

…giving us…a 1pt win bet on Unowhatimeanharry at 13/2 BOG available at 5.50pm on Thursday from Hills, Paddy Power and BetVictor, but to see your preferred bookies’ odds, simply…
