Race of the Day – 6 Dec

Race of the Day – 14:50 Southwell

A mile handicap on the all-weather at Southwell for today’s Race of the day, in a contest where plenty of runners have a chance.

Alan Swinbank has been in really good form of late, with four winners from 15 runners (26.67%) for a level stakes profit of 13.50. He also has useful course form over the past year, and has posted level stakes profits of 11.50 from 53 runners. He runs one of the outsiders in Genres, who may be worth a closer look.

As this isn’t a race of a high standard, the Speed Ratings are on the low side. However, Balducci really stands out as he is rated a long way clear of the rest with a mark of 76.

The Shortlist is a report that is free to all users on a Tuesday, and it shows us that although St Patricks’s Day has some really poor looking form, he is nicely suited by the race conditions here today, with three sections of green and one of amber, giving a total score of 9 out of 15.

The Instant Expert tab confirms St Patrick’s Day’s good showing here, and he’s the only one with a green sections for the course and the going. As previously mentioned, his current form is pretty mediocre, and that has seen his handicap mark fall significantly. He is now eight pounds lower than for his last win, therefore if conditions to his liking reinvigorate him, he could be a player.

Leaders here over this distance have quite a useful record, with almost 16% of them winning, and returning a level stakes profit of 86.13 over a sample of 663 runners.

The favourite Royal Holiday looks certain to be vying for the lead early on, together with Whozthecat and Balducci.
