Race of the Day – 13:05 Bangor-on-Dee
Today’s Race of the Day comes from Bangor, and the marathon handicap chase over in excess of three miles and five furlongs. There are currently ten runners going to post, and stamina is going to be key.
Nigel and Sam Twiston-Davies have a very good record together at Bangor over the past five years. They’ve had five winners (20%) and 13 places (52%) from 25 runners for level stakes profits of 15.25 and 20.48 respectively. They run the seven year old Millicent Silver here today.
When taking a look at the Instant Expert tab (which is free to all users for every race on a Thursday), we can see that Millicent Silver has a lovely full line of green, showing he is very well suited by today’s conditions. Crucially, he is one from one over the distance. He is also just two pounds higher than for his last win, therefore he looks to have a very solid chance here today.
Barton Gift is quite a big outsider at 25/1, however he has three sections of green and two of amber, suggesting he may be a little overpriced.
Due to the length of this race, there isn’t a huge sample to go on when looking at the Pace tab. From the limited amount of information we have, it appears beneficial to either be at the head of affairs, or ridden patiently and held up.
Beauboreen and Barton Gift both like to get on with things and look likely to take them along today.
For a race of this distance, it is important for the runners to be bred to stay in my opinion. Millicent Silver’s sire is Overbury, and from looking at the Sire Snippets report we can see that offspring of Overbury excel over the jumps for marathon distances. From 37 runners he has produced nine winners (20.66%) for a level stakes profit of 93.37.
