Race of the Day – 4 Jan

Race of the Day – 15:35 Newcastle

There is a large field for this 0-65 handicap on the all weather track at Newcastle, and they are racing over a mile.

The race has a wide open look to it, with the current favourite Orlando Rogue, priced at around 5/1.

The Instant Expert tab tells the story of this race really well I think, and that is that it’s very short on any kind of quality at all.

Rock Warbler is the only runner to stand out here, with three sections of green and one of amber. He has only raced twice over today’s distance of a mile, however they were both on the turf and the way he finished his previous win here over seven furlongs, it suggests he will have little trouble getting the extra furlong.

It is interesting to note from the Pace tab that horses that are held up have the best record. They have a win percentage of 13.79 with that yielding a level stakes profit of 40.11.

A lot of today’s runners are usually mid division or held up, so there is potential for one of them to have it all their own way up front and have a soft lead. If that does happen, they may have the chance to breakaway and not get caught.

Trainer Statistics is the report which is free to all users on a Wednesday, and below it shows what excellent current form Mark Walford is in. He’s had five winners (20%) and 12 places (48%) from his last 25 runners for level stakes profits of 39.00 and 47.50 respectively. He runs the big priced (25/1) Life Of Fame here today.
