Race of the Day – 16:00 Wolverhampton
This is a very useful looking Conditions Stakes on the all weather at Wolverhampton, raced over the marathon distance of a little more than two miles.
Godolphin have the current favourite, Famous Kid, and he is the highest rated horse in the field, with an official mark of 110. Bin Suroor has a very good record here, with 42 winners (35.90%) and 80 places (68.38%) from 117 runners over the past five years for level stakes profits of 9.26 and 22.47 respectively. He is also has a brilliant record with horses running from a 60+ day break, with 46/162 for 59.53 points.
Godolphin also have the second favourite, Antiquarium, trained by Charlie Appleby. He’s another who’s record here is good, and it’s notable that he is also very strong with staying runners on the flat.
A few of the runners stand out on the Instant Expert tab, notably Gang Warfare, who has four section of green and one of amber. This is also strong enough for him to make The Shortlist report today. Due to the two short priced Godolphin runners, we can get around 14/1 on him, so has the potential to be a interesting each way play.
Steve Rogers also looks good with four sections of green, however he has never won in this class, so it may be too much to ask.
Not surprisingly given the distance of the race, runners that come from behind have a much better record than the pace setters. Over 12% of horses that are held up manage to go on and win the race, with prominent runners also doing well. Leaders actually have the worse record out of the four categories.
Famous Kid is usually quite handy, and together with Intense Tango look likely to be taking them along.
Antiquarium and Gang Warfare are usual hold up horses, based on their last four runs, and will look to pick the rest of them off late on.
