Race of the Day -15:10 Lingfield Park
It’s a five furlong dash on the all weather at Lingfield for today’s Race of the Day.
The top weight, Hamish McGonagain, is the short priced favourite at around 5/4, with both his trainer and jockey in very good recent form. He also comes out on top in the Speed Ratings, which are particularly important in these sprint races.
There is very little green on the Instant Expert tab, with just two runners having one section each. However, Roy’s Leagacy has a full line of amber, showing that he is capable of winning in these conditions, and in fact he has done plenty of times in the past. He is also seven pounds lower than for his last victory, meaning he is potentially very well handicapped if these conditions can bring out the best in him.
The favourite hasn’t won at the course or over this distance before, therefore he is definitely worth trying to find one to take him on with, as he is far too short a price for me with those questions to answer.
With this being the minimum distance we can reasonably expect early leaders to have a good record, and they don’t disappoint. Over 27% of leaders have gone on to win their race, for an incredible level stakes profit of 457.11, from 517 runners.
Annie Salts and Roy’s Legacy both look likely to be fighting it out for the based on the Pace tab, which looks at the past four runs of each of them. If Roy’s Legacy does manage to get himself to the front, I think he may prove tough to peg back.
The free report for all users to access on a Friday is Horses For Courses, and it shows us that Roy’s Legacy definitely had a tendency to run well when he comes to Lingfield. He’s had six wins and 12 places from 24 races for level stakes profits of 6.95 and 13.43 respectively.
Given all of the above, I expect him to make a bold bid for the win today, and think he may be a little bit of value at 4/1.
