Race of the Day – 14:00 Southwell
We go to the all weather track at Southwell to start the week for Race of the Day, and a one mile claiming stakes.
Retrieve is trained by Jamie Osborne and ridden by Adam Kirby, and the pair of them have been in very good form over the past 30 days. As a combination they have had four winners and five places from 9 runners over this period for level stakes profits of 8.00 and 6.74 respectively.
Today is the first time that Retrieve is going to be racing whilst being trained by Osborne. The blue ‘TC’ next to the horses name indicates when there has been a ‘Trainer Change’, and if you click on these letters it will produce a report which shows how well trainers do with horses they have inherited from another yard. Osborne does particularly well here, with five winners and ten places from 22 such horses over the past year, for level stakes profits of 24.13 and 33.60 respectively.
When looking at the Instant Expert tab, Vivat Rex has a useful showing with three sections of green and two of amber. The race looks nicely set up for the bottom weight, and he is just two pounds higher than for his last victory.
The current favourite, Pearl Nation, has a very good record at the course, with three win from seven runs.
The Pace tab shows that leaders have a good looking record here over this distance, with almost 16% of them going on to take the victory, for level stakes profits of 84.46.
Although there are no real confirmed front runners in the field, Pearl Nation looks most likely to take them along, as he is usually very handy in his races and has comfortably the highest pace score, based on the last four races of each runner.
High drawn numbers look to have an advantage here over this distance, with 23.68% of them winning, for level stakes profits over 20.07. This isn’t from a huge sample of races, however it still does appear to be a useful bias and one that is worth taking note of.
