Race of the Day – 14:50 Wolverhampton
This is a reasonable looking handicap over nine furlongs on the all weather at Wolverhampton, and it looks a very tricky contest to decipher.
Every Chance and A L’anglaise are both making their handicap debuts today, which can be seen by the blue ‘HC1 next the their names. Every Chance is trained by Jamie Osborne, and by clicking on the HC1 it can seen that he has quite a useful record with handicap debutants. He’s had three winners and six places from his last 21 runners, for level stakes profits of 6.75 and 4.06. Osborne has also been in very good recent form, where over the last 30 days he is 11/48 for 13.55 points.
Every Chance and Tangramm both show up really well on the Instant Expert tab.
Every Chance has four sections of green, albeit not from a large sample of runs, and a section of grey, not having run in this class today due to it being his handicap debut.
Tangramm has three sections of green and one of amber, these being from quite a good amount of runs. He is nicely suited by the conditions here today, enough to have made The Shortlist. He is also just three pounds higher than for his previous victory, so I expect a bold showing from him.
From looking at the pace tab we can see that leaders here over this distance do have the best record, but it isn’t enough to pin your hopes solely on a front runner. A little over 15% of leaders have gone on to win their race, for a large level stakes loss.
Count Montecristo is a confirmed front runner and looks almost certain to go straight to the head of affairs and try to dictate proceedings.
There looks to be a slight advantage from being drawn towards the centre, when looking at the draw tab. However, this isn’t a massive advantage and if a horse I liked the look of, was drawn on the outside, it wouldn’t particularly put me off.
All in all this is a very tricky race, and one I wouldn’t want to be getting too heavily involved with.
