Race of the Day – 13 Feb

Race of the Day – 15:50 Wolverhampton

This is a good quality handicap over nine furlongs on the all weather at Wolverhampton, for horses rated up to 105.

Sennockian Star is rated miles clear on the Speed Ratings, with a mark of 112. The next closest is Perfect Cracker on 80, so a huge difference. His trainer Mark Johnston has quite a useful record here at Wolverhampton as well.

Adam Kirby, who rides Perfect Cracker, has a fantastic record on the all weather courses and is always among the winners. Over the past year when riding here he’s had 36 winners (26.09%) and 72 places (52.17%) for level stakes profits of 4.29 and 5.29.

Winterlude stands out clearly on the Instant Expert report, as he has a full line of green and is clearly very well suited by the racing conditions here today. He is also just two pounds higher than for his last victory, so a big run is expected and he looks a value play at his current price of 13/2.

When looking at the pace tab, although front runners do have the best record, it is not as large a bias as in some cases with a win record of a little over 15% for early leaders and producing a large level stakes loss.

There doesn’t appear to be a real confirmed front runner, so there is the potential for this race to have quite a slow pace early on, and for there to be a mad dash for the winning post from around two furlongs out. However, Sennockian Star is definitely comfortable over a longer distance, so he may well try and make it a good test.
